The Youth Empowerment Synergy (YES- GHANA) is empowering some selected students of the University of Energy Natural Resources (UENR) to identify some social challenges and help in solving them.

The programme forms part of YES-Ghana’s Youth Leadership for Social Change Project in collaboration with the University for Development Students, University of Energy and Natural Resources and the University of Cape Coast and funded by the Ford Foundation.

Eric Saforo, the Project Manager of the programme in an interview with Citi News as monitored by Successafrica.info said, ” The practical application of the skills, knowledge, and understanding gained through the Youth Academy for Social Change is essential to ensuring that the fellows apply what they have learnt.”

Mr Saforo also noted that the programme is also to empower and equip the students so that when they come out of school, they would be problem solvers and start something on their own.

Mr. Saforo noted that they are targeting the tertiary students because in the next ten years they would be in the helm of affairs and with the training they are receiving it would help them make good decisions.’s

“Five teams of fellows made of 12 students will receive up to GH 20,000.00 each to implement an initiative of social impact on and around UENR Campus.”

Mr Saforo also revealed that the mentors who are mentoring the various fellows would support and monitor the implementation of these projects and evaluate the group’s effectiveness in carrying out these processes.

“Over a period of six months, the students would receive the necessary technical support to lead the implementation of their group projects.”

Some of the issues to be tackled by the students include drug abuse on campus, water and electricity situation at Kuturo 3 and also education for food vendors in the Sunyani Municipality.
