2018 BECE Rankings: Upper Denkyira West Tops

Upper Denkyira West located in the Central Region of Ghana with Diaso as its capital tops the 2018 BECE rankings.

The district beat 215 other districts for the bragging rights per the national summary released by the GES. In terms of mean aggregates, the placed second while Adansi North district placed 1st.

The district scored 99.12%, 100%, 99.86% and 99.4% proficiency in English language, Mathematics, Social Studies and Integrated Science respectively based on the national analysis of the GES statistics department. In all 505206 candidates wrote the exams in 2018

The Upper Denkyira West 1470 candidates wrote the exams from the Upper Denkyira West district during the 2018 BECE. 98.96% of males attained between aggregate 6-30 while 98.58 girls obtained between aggregate 6-30.

In all, the district obtained a total of 98.78% to top the chart in 2018 as the best district at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) held in June 2018.

Sefwi Wiawso, Adansi North, Upper Denkyira East, Atwima Kwanmoma followed in 2nd,3rd, 4th and 5th position respectively.

The performance of Upper Denkyira West is commendable and a challenge to districts and municipalities in the big cities and more endowed regions like Accra and Ashanti region to up their game.

Currently, the 2019 BECE registration is ongoing and in the phase 1 stage where the Biodata of candidates and the subjects they will write in the examination are being collected for each exams centre in the country. GES has extended the closing date for 2019 BECE registration to enable all schools register.

There is a need for parents, teachers, school authorities, GES and WAEC to collaborate to see how best the results of the upcoming exams in 2019 can be improved. Sadly, GES’ intention to cut RME out of Basic School is worrying.

Upper Denkyira West TOPS 2018 BECE Rankings

It is time to move away from giving traditional excuses for the low performance of pupils and schools to a scientific and result oriented approach to teaching and learning to help bring out the best in our pupils come 2019 BECE in June. Discipline is very crucial in attaining this but issues such as Teacher weeps as class three pupil gets him arrested for caning her need to be tackled.

We salute the Teachers, Headteachers, pupils and parents of the Upper Denkyira West district for their sterling performance in 2018 and challenge them to work hard to maintain or improve on this result

We also use this medium to call on all schools across the country to step up their efforts from teaching and effective and efficient school leadership that inspires confidence in pupils and staff so that the best can emerge from their collective efforts.
