Uganda’s Largest University Names a Hall After Kwame Nkrumah

Uganda’s largest university Makerere University in Kampala has a hall named after Ghana’s first president and founder of the Pan-African movement Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah.

Nkrumah(they spell it Nkurumah) Hall is a male hostel that was built in 1954 and it originally called “New Hall” under the management of Northcote Hall now known as Nsibiriwa. It’s known for the culture of Pan Africanism and the residents are called “Activists”.

Makerere University has 9 halls of residence; 3 for females and 6 for male students. The female halls are Mary Stuart Hall, Africa Hall and Complex Hall. The male halls includes Lumumba Hall, Mitchell Hall, Nsibiriwa Hall, Livingstone Hall, University Hall and Nkurumah Hall.
