The Ghana Armed Forces consist of the Ghana Army, Ghana Navy, and Ghana Air Force. It was founded in 1957 when Ghana gained independence. It has its headquarters in Accra.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces is the President, in this case, His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo. It is managed by the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Defense Staff.

Ghana Army

Ghana Navy

This is the sea warfare for Ghana. They operate on the sea, ocean and other major water bodies. It was also formed on the 29thbof July 1959. The current Chief of the Naval Staff is Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu.

Their colours are ultramarine, iceberg and blue-grey. It consists of the Naval Headquarters at Burma Camp in Accra and has three operational commands.

1. Western naval command (Sekondi)

2. Eastern naval command (Tema)

3. Naval training command (Sogakope)

Ghana Air Force

This is Ghana’s warfare in the sky. They employ the use of military aircraft and other flying machines. It was established on 29th July 1959. They have 22 aircraft.

The Chief of Air Staff is Air Vice Marshal Frank Hanson. Their headquarters is located at Burma Camp. Their Air Force Base, their main transport airfield, is in Accra.

It shares the same runway with the Kotoka International Airport. The Air forces Base in Tamale shares a runway with the Tamale Airport.

1. Be a Ghanaian citizen

2. Be of good character

3. Be medically fit according to Ghana Armed Forces standards

4. Must not be bonded

5. Must not be less than 18 years and not more than 26 years for regular commission and not more than 30 years for short service commission.

6. Minimum height of 1.68 m for males and 1.57 m for females.
