The leadership of the KNUST Students’ Parliament House, on Tuesday 23rd March, 2021, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, to primarily congratulate and wish her the very best of luck in her administration as the first female Vice-Chancellor of our noble institution, KNUST.
In attendance of this courtesy call was the Dean of Students, Professor. Wilson Agyare.
Leadership and the entire members of the KNUST Students’ Parliament believe that it is of no doubt that the dedication and contribution of the Vice-Chancellor will ensure that students grow and achieve their very best.
Having been received, Leadership first expressed their gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for taking time off her busy schedule to meet with them. They then made known to her the reason for their visit, of which Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson was very appreciative.
Leadership then thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the entire University management for some of the visible and notable infrastructural developments around campus.
Mention was made of the improvement of security and lightning systems on campus, the New Block for the Faculty of Social Sciences, amongst others.
Leadership then proceeded to relay to the Vice-Chancellor some challenges with security off-campus and a poor lightening system. To this, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson pledged that more will be done to ensure the improvement of security off-campus.
The issue of the Ayigya community having no student representative was also raised by leadership because of the greater number of students who currently reside in the community.
To this, the Vice-Chancellor together with the Dean of Students admonished that, a meeting will be held with the Executives of the SRC, on how to go about getting a student representative for the Ayigya community.
Again, the issue of Students in the Faculty of Social Sciences been evacuated from the lecture halls immediately after their lectures or been denied access to various lecture halls when it isn’t time for lectures was also raised by Leadership.
This evacuation is a result of alleged cases of people stealing projectors and other items from the lecture halls, and have deprived many other innocent students who wish to have other extra-academic activities of their own in these lecture halls.
The Vice-Chancellor then said that few classrooms will be dedicated purposely for these curricula activities in the said Faculty.
The Leadership of the House once again commended the marvellous works the Vice-Chancellor and her entire management are doing for the Students of KNUST.
The Vice-Chancellor then admonished the House to continue to be more innovative and as well do more of what she termed community impact programs like the KSPH COVID-19 SENSITIZATION PROGRAMME the house recently embarked on so as to aid the management of the school in tackling some emerging challenges so us to maintain our current position as the best university in West Africa and Improve on our position on the African stage.
She expressed her belief in Student Leaders and showed her sincere gratitude for the deed done. She also promised to be of help anytime the House would call upon her. Leadership finally gave the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, a citation to affirm their gratitude.
