UDS: Search Committee for The Position of Chancellor Inaugurated
The UDS Governing Council has begun the search for a distinguished personality to fill the vacant position of Chancellor of the University.
This came to light at the inauguration of a six – member Committee tasked to solicit nominations and make appropriate recommendations to the Governing Council for the appointment of a Chancellor.
Inaugurating the committee the Chairman of the UDS Governing Council, Mr. Nutifafa Kuenyehia Esq, stated that the UDS Statutes (Statute 6.1) established the position of a Chancellor of the University, to be appointed by Council. However, in its 25years of existence, the University’s administrative machinery had functioned without a Chancellor. “The administrative structures and offices that are prerequisites for the establishment and growth of an academic institution such as ours have been put in place over the years. Yet, we are still left with one important office, to be put in place. And that office is the office of the Chancellor of the University,” Mr. Nutifafa Kuenyehia remarked.
The Vice – Chancellor of UDS, Prof. G. A. Teye hinted that some strategic stake-holders of the University had expressed worry at the delay in appointing a Chancellor for UDS. He expressed the hope that the processes leading to the appointment of a Chancellor for the University would be completed before the climax of the 25thAnniversary celebrations.
For his part, the Registrar, Dr. A.B.T Zakariah recalled previous attempts that were made to appoint a Chancellor. He was optimistic that with the caliber of persons constituting the Committee, a good job will be well done.
