The Deputy Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, Ms Perpetual Lomokie Akwada in the early hours of today 16th of March , took to the streets of texpo market at Spintex to extend benevolence to the market women.
The materials donated include gloves, sanitizers and nose mask.
In an interview with the media Ms Lomokie said, ” the time has come to sensitise our mothers to take charge of their own protection against the COVID-19 virus.
The market women are the most vulnerable, because they interact with different people each day. There is therefore the need to visit them with these materials to keep them safe. We need our market women alive and we love them”.
Among the beneficiaries were the taxi, trotro drivers, market women and other users of the market.
Many of the women who benefited from the exercise expressed their excitement. When the media approached Auntie Akorle a market woman at the texpo market she said, ” I was thinking of how I would get a sanitizer to buy. I didn’t even know how I would get some since the prices have astronomically increased. Now that I have received this from sister Perpetual, I will use it judiciously.” “It is my wish the prices of the sanitizers come down so that we can all afford”, she added.
Meanwhile, the president of the republic H.E NANA ADDO DANKWA AKUFFO ADDO, has given directives that, all public gatherings should be banned, Tertiary institutions are to be closed effective today 16th March, 2020 as part of the measures to curb the COVID -19 menace.
