The National Democratic Congress (NDC) yesterday suspended yesterday suspended its former central regional chairman, Allotey Jacobs for what they describe as anti-party conducts.
A statement signed by the party’s National Chairman, Hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo indicated that pursuant to Articles 46 (1), 46 (6) and 46 (8) (b) of the party’s constitution, Mr. Allotey Jacobs was found to have been in default of the the constitution and was suspended on grounds of anti-party conducts. The decision was taken during a meeting of the National Executive Committee on Wednesday, 6th May, 2020.
There have been some complaints from some members of the NEC over utterances of Allotey Jacobs on radio and television stations since loosing his executive position, with some party communicators boycotting appearance on shows with him on Peace Fm.
However in an interview with Joy Fam’s Evans Mensah, the suspended former chairman said he is unfazed by the suspension and described it as welcoming. He stated that he will always stand for the truth despite the party describing his utterances and positions as anti-party conducts.
“I have my own independent mind and I believe that I will always stand for the truth, and if the party dislikes it and for that reason, they are suspending me beautiful. Therefore means, you are suspending me, my votes, my family etc”, he said.
Continuing, he said “I have nothing to say and I won’t challenge any decision. A political party is a voluntary organization that is spearheaded by a group of people whom we elect to office to steer the affairs of the party, its voluntary, so if they have met and have decided that they are going to suspend me that is beautiful I have nothing to say, but that will not stop me from going to radio programmes and standing up for the truth; when it is good I will say it when it is bad I will say it”, he told Joy FM’s Evans Mensah.”
Describing himself as a social commentator, he added that he will attend radio programmes provided he is invited to attend.
He however mentioned that he will support the party if the party take a decision which is in its best interest.
He denied being in bed with the NPP, saying “How could I be in bed with the NPP, facts are facts, when something is good about the NPP I will say it, when it is wrong, I will talk against it. You see there is the need for us to change the kind of narrative or we have to change our political discourse, you see we need to grow our politics in this country”.
Mr. Allotey Jacobs said he won’t cut any ties with the party, but added he is no more active in frontline party organizations.
