The Institute of Distance Learning (IDL), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, informs prospective applicants and the general public that application forms for admission into the postgraduate, undergraduate (top-up), and diploma programs of the university through the Distance Learning Mode for the 2024–2025 academic year are now on sale. Applicants are requested to carefully read the entry requirements before selecting the program of choice.

Entry Requirements For Admission

2 YEAR TOP-UP UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

  1. BSc Business Administration

Entry Requirements: HND or its equivalent in business-related areas such as Accounting, Secretarial, Management, Purchasing and Supply, Marketing, etc. Options available are:

  1. Human Resource Management
  2. Management
  3. Accounting
  4. Banking and Finance
  5. Marketing
  6. Hospitality Management
  7. Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Candidates shall continue in the AREAS OF specialization in their respective programmes for the top-up. Specializations would be mounted in specific centers, depending on the number of qualified applicants.

  1. Quantity Surveying and Construction Economics (QSCE)
  2. Construction Technology and Management (CTM)

Entry Requirements for QSCE and CTM: HND in Building Technology or its equivalent Diploma Certificate. A sound background in Mathematics is required.

  1. A. Social Work

Entry Requirements: Applicants with any of the following qualifications from an accredited University or Institution:

  1. Diploma in Social Work
  2. Degree or Diploma in Education
  3. Diploma from Teacher Training Colleges/Nursing Training College
  4. HND in Management or Human Resource Management
  5. Degree or Diploma in Theology and Biblical Studies.
  1. A. Sociology

Entry Requirements: Applicants with any of the following qualifications from an accredited University or Institution:

  1. Diploma in Social Work
  2. Diploma in Social Administration
  3. Diploma in Police/Prison Administration
  4. Degree or Diploma in Education
  5. Diploma from Teacher Training Colleges
  6. Diploma from Nursing Training Colleges
  7. Degree or Diploma in Theology
  8. First Degree in any Social Science Program
  9. HND in Business Administration (i.e. Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing, etc.)
  1. Information Technology

Entry Requirements: Applicants with any of the following qualifications from an accredited University or Institution:

  1. HND or equivalent Diploma Certificate in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electronics, Data Processing, Information Systems/Sciences and any area related to any of the programmes listed.
  2. A first degree in any of the physical sciences or Engineering may also apply.
  1. Statistics

Entry Requirements: Applicants with HND in Statistics or related equivalent Diploma certificate from an accredited Institution can apply.

  1. Agriculture

Entry Requirements: Applicants with Diploma in Agriculture, Diploma in Horticulture, HND in Agriculture or any related Science program from a reputable Agricultural Institution.

  1. Actuarial Science

Entry Requirements: Applicants with any of the following qualifications from an accredited Institution or University could apply.

  1. HND or equivalent Diploma Certificate in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Science or Accounting
  2. University graduates holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Physical Science or Statistics
  1. Computer Science

Entry Requirements: Applicants with any of the following qualifications from an accredited Institution or University could apply.

HND or its equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electronics, Data Processing, Information Systems/Sciences and any area related to any of the programmes listed.

2 YEAR UNDERGRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

  1. SSSCE Holders

Six (6) Passes (A –D) in all subjects, including English and Mathematics. For areas of specialization, three (3) of the Passes must be in relevant subjects.

  1. WASSCEHolders

Six (6) Passes (A1 – D7) in all subjects, three (3) of which should be credit Passes (C6) or better. It must be noted, however, that certain courses may require credit passes (C6) or better in other relevant courses.

  1. General Certificate of Education (G.C.E) ‘A’ Level Holders

Passes in Two (2) subjects with grades not lower than E. In addition, Applicants must possess passes at the G.C.E ‘O’ Level in Mathematics, General Science/Agriculture/Health science, and English.

  1. General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.)’O’ Level

A minimum of five passes (1–8) in five (5) subjects, including English Language, General Science and Mathematics.

  1. Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE):

Passes in Three subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Applicants must have credit passes in five subjects, including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE).

SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

  1. Diploma in Architectural Technology

Applicants must possess any of the following:

  1. SSSCE/WASSCE holders who have passes (A-D/A1-D7) in three (3) core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science, plus credit in three (3) elective subjects.
  2. Ordinary Level holders with passes (1–8) in at least five (5) subjects at G.C.E. “O” level (or its equivalent, including English and Mathematics).
  3. Proficiency Certificate in Architectural Draftsmanship with passes (A-D/A1-D7) at SSSCE/WASSCE in English, Mathematics, and Integrated Science.
  4. Construction Technician Certificates (CTC) 1 & 2 and other related professional certificates.
  1. Diploma in Business Administration

In addition to the general requirements stated above, applicants with the following qualifications may apply:.

General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) or RSA Stage II with Grades A–D in five (5) subjects, including Accounting, Business Management, English Language, and Mathematics.

Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) or RSA Stage III with passes in three (3) subjects, including financial accounting and economics, with grades D or better.

Applicants with a Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) should, in addition, possess four (4) passes at SSSCE/WASSCE (A-D/A1-D7), including English and Mathematics.

  1. Diploma in Information Technology

For SSSCE and WASSCE candidates, preference will be given to those with both elective mathematics and ICT.

SSSCE/WASSCE Applicants (irrespective of option) who have done additional certificate courses at accredited institutions like NIIT, IPMC, Blue Crest, etc. may apply.

‘A’ Level Candidates: Must have GCE ‘O’ level certificate with Credits in at least FIVE subjects, including Mathematics and English Language. Must also have Two passes at the Advanced Level.

MATURE Applicants Must be at least 25 years old at the time of applying and should possess GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate with Credits in at least FIVE subjects, including English and Mathematics. Possession of ‘A’ Level Certificate will be an added advantage. Applicants will be required to show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of birth which is at least five years old. Applicants will take entrance exams.

  1. Diploma in Horticulture

For WASSCE and SSSCE applicants, the elective subjects should be in biology, general agriculture, chemistry, or Physics/Mathematics

For G.C.E Ordinary Level candidates, in addition to the general requirements listed above, applicants should have passes in Physics, chemistry, biology, agricultural science, general science, or any other subject.

Certificate Holders from any of the Agricultural Colleges in the country, such as Kwadaso, Nyanpkala or Wenchi Colleges, could also apply.

G.C.E Advanced Level should obtain passes (A-D) in Chemistry, physics, mathematics, biology, or Agricultural Science.

  1. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

For WASSCE and SSSCE applicants, in addition to the general entry requirement above, applicants with passes in Elective Mathematics, Elective Physics or any one of the following may apply:

  • Chemistry
  • Metal Work
  • Auto Mechanic
  • Applied Electricity
  • Technical Drawing
  • Engineering Science

WASSCE/ SSSCE Applicants without Chemistry should have obtained at least a B3 in Integrated Science.

Mechanical Engineering Technician, Part 3 Applicants must have obtained passes in all MET III courses

Motor Vehicle Technicians, Part III Applicants must have obtained passes in all the MVT III courses

  1. Diploma in Computer Network Engineering

The following category of people can apply:

For WASSCE/SSSCE applicants, in addition to the general entry requirements above, applicants should have at least a Pass in PhysicsElective Mathematics or either Chemistry, Applied Electricity or Electronics.

‘A’ Level Applicants should have passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry

Mature Applicants should have

As in (i) above or

As in (ii) above or

HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with a minimum of three (3) years working experience in a relevant field.

In addition, a candidate should be at least twenty-five (25) years old at the time of application

  1. Diploma in Disability and Rehabilitation Studies

Candidates who offered Science, General Agriculture, General Arts, Visual Art, Home Economics and Business can apply.

Six passes in all subjects, three of which should be Credit passes or better.

COST OF APPLICATION FORM

The e-voucher cost is as follows:

  1. All undergraduate programs cost GHC280.00 for Ghanaian applicants.
  2. Diploma Programmes: Purchase a banker’s draft of GH¢250.00 payable to the KNUST Institute of Distance Learning.

HOW TO APPLY FOR KNUST DISTANCE LEARNING ADMISSION

  1. All Undergraduate Top-Up applicants should purchase Online application e-voucher from ECOBANK, GCB and CBG and APPLY ONLINE. Applicants should follow carefully the instructions on the e-voucher.
  2. Diploma program applicants should purchase a Banker’s Draft/Payment Order at GH¢250.00 FROM ANY BANK, payable to KNUST Institute of Distance Learning, submit the same to any of the following IDL Learning Centres for their e-voucher, and then apply online.

  1. All applicants should visit https://apps.knust.edu.gh/admissions and complete an online application using the e-voucher provided.
  2. One (1) copy of the online application should be printed and posted to the RegistrarInstitute of Distance Learning, KNUST-Kumasi, Ghana, together with all relevant certificates and other required documents.
  3. Applicants must ensure that they purchase distance learning forms and not regular KNUST forms to avoid complications.
  4. Only results and/or documents provided by applicants at the time of submission of their applications shall be considered.
  5. The completed online forms should be printed and posted using an EMS envelope and should reach: The Institute RegistrarInstitute of Distance Learning, KNUST-Kumasi, Ghana, by Friday, July 31, 2024.
  6. Please note that programs would only be mounted at centers with the requisite minimum number of qualified applicants (please contact the IDL Office for details).
  7. Facilitation is a blend of online and face-to-face sessions on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) at the proposed centers mentioned above.

Below are some frequently asked questions about the KNUST admission forms:

How do I get KNUST-awaiting forms?

The KNUST2024/2025 Awaiting Forms will be out in March 2024. The forms can be obtained at any regional branch of the Ghana Post Office across the country and accredited outlets nationwide.

Can you apply for KNUST without birth certificate?

No, you cannot apply for KNUST admission without a birth certificate. It is clear in the requirement that Applicants (excluding awaiting results candidates) shall include in their application forms photocopies of their results slips and/or relevant certificates. Applicants shall include a certified true copy of their birth certificate.

Is D7 accepted in KNUST?

One entry requirement and guideline for selecting an undergraduate program is to attain grades from A to C6, in which D7 to F9 are not accepted. That is, D7, E8 and F9 are not accepted in KNUST.

Which banks sell KNUST forms?

GCB Bank, Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG), or Ecobank are the banks that sell the KNUST forms. All prospective applicants are encouraged by any of these banks to purchase the KNUST forms. Applicants can also check at any of the post offices we have in the country for the admission forms.

Can I buy KNUST forms online?

KNUST admission forms cannot be bought online. Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit any of the banks or post offices selling the admission forms. Applicants can also buy the forms by dialling *885# on their mobile phone and following the prompts.

What is the price of KNUST forms?

The price of the KNUST undergraduate forms is GH¢ 280.00 for Ghanaian applicants and USD 150.00 for international applicants.

Is C6 accepted in KNUST?

D7, E8, and F9 are not acceptable for any course offered in the technology-driven institution. Only candidates with A1, B2, B3, C4, C5, and C6 in their WASSCE examinations can be admitted.

Can I change my program in KNUST?
