The Ghana Scholarship secretariat has announced that it is going to absorb the full fees of students who will be entering the various tertiary institutions for 2020/2021 academic year.
The Registrar of the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, Kingsley Agyemang, disclosed in a presser, that his outfit has budgeted about GHC 50 million to be awarded in scholarships for the 2020/2021 academic year.
He said the secretariat has set aside that amount for the scholarship scheme due to the varying levels of education and the varying cost of tuition each student is likely to pay.
The Secretariat during its press conference today, December 1, 2020, also said following the directive of the President of the Republic, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, it has opened its online portal for the free SHS graduates entering various tertiary institutions to apply for the scholarship.
The local scholarship secretariat was introduced by H.E President Akuffo-Addo in 2017. It was decentralised and digitised in the 2019/2020 academic year.
The scholarship covers academic facility user fees and tuition fees for all accredited tertiary institutions, both public and private.
Government has budgeted Gh¢ 85million to cater for continuing students estimated to be 45,000 beneficiaries and 15,000 estimated free SHS entrants.
