We come your way with another giant, committed step taken by YEBOAH NKETIA-ANIM ( NAYAN ), UDS SRC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE in the quest to find solutions to solve problems students of the university face.
Earlier today, he visited the RENT CONTROL DEPARTMENT OF THE TAMALE METROPOLITAN ASSEMBLY. Over there, he held fruitful interactions with Mr. Abdul Basit, the in-charge, with so many positives coming out of the meeting. The following is the breakdown of the meeting;
NAYAN sought to understand the activities that happen at the department and how they go about in the exercise of their constitutional mandate of protecting the interest of all stakeholders in the rent service- tenents and landlords/ladies alike._
NAYAN spelt out the numerous rent challenges students faced with Hostel owners on and around campus including but not limited to the unreasonable and unfair yearly increment in Hostel fees and also the quarrels that arise as a result of lack of transparency in the usage of water and electricity in some hostels._
Nayan sought to understand how feasible his policy which will ensure that students who rent hostel on and around campus can get value for money._
RESPONSE FROM RENT CONTROL
The officers accepted full responsibility for the various challenges students face but attributed their ineffectiveness to their limited stuff strength and physical resources to help in making rounds to ensure compliance by various landlords._
The Rent Control Department further went ahead to mention that the SRC through the University management could play very vital roles to ensure value for money as well as outmost protection of students’ interest by drawing strict guidelines and a Hostel increment policy which will bind landlords and ladies. Also, SRC through its Accommodation Committee could report cases of cheating of students by Hostel owners to them and they will follow up to bring such persons to face the full rigorous of the law._
Conclusively, NAYAN thanked the department for the warm reception given him and reiterated his outfit’s commitment to working closely with them when elected SRC PRESIDENT to champion the agenda of bringing lasting solutions to the Hostel challenges students face.
