The Ghana Police service is the main agent of law enforcement in Ghana, and the Ministry of Interior controls it. The service has over 600 stations across the country, and it employs over 30,000 Ghanaians. It was formed in 1894 with the motto Service with Integrity. They operate only within the boundaries of Ghana.
They have their headquarters in Accra. The current minister for the interior is Honourable Ambrose Dery, and the Inspector-General of Police is COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
The Ghana Police Service used to be called Gold Coast Police Force until 1970, when the Police Service Act 1970 (Act 350) was enacted. It is said that the force description was changed to service to give the police the attitude of serving.
Currently, they are regulated by the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. The Ghana Police service is mandated to

There is a Police Management Board headed by the Inspector General of Police. It is made up of scheduled officers who help the Inspector General of Police in the day-to-day administration of the service.
There’s a Police Council established under the constitution, which advises the president on matters of internal security relation. These include budget, administration, and promotion of officers, and the Vice President chairs it.
